Between the Matrix sequels, Speed Racer, and their secondary career producing stuff like Ninja Assassin I was kind of worried about the Wachowskis. For that matter, I wasn’t exactly sure if Tom Tykwer would be able to hit one out of the park again either. And yet, these seemingly unique filmmakers were somehow able to come together in order to create a film of stunning ambition that’s unique in its vision. It’s a film that takes a book that no one (myself included) thought could be adapted and just goes right ahead and made it. Of course there are some rough edges and questionable decisions that were made along the way, but I couldn’t help but be amazed by the sheer scope and audacity of the project in spite of these flaws.
