Though this isn’t the best riff on the Before Sunrise “two people having an extended conversation” formula, it is certainly a strong entrant in that field. The film is about two gay men who meet in a bar on a Friday and get to know one another over the course of a weekend before one of them leaves the country on a two year trip. Though the film’s highs aren’t as high as, say, some of The Tree of Life’s finer moments, it’s also a film which I have almost no complaints about. It achieves almost all of the modest goals it sets for itself and then some and hits nary a false note. Though it’s extremely low budget prevents it from being visually spectacular, it isn’t ugly either and it has a certain low-fi charm which reminded me of the film Once.
