[Ed. Note: original piece was lost, what follows was written retroactively in 2011] Only by the incredible standards that Martin Scorsese has set for himself over the last forty odd years can his latest film, Shutter Island, really be called any kind of a failure.  This may not be a bold personal statement but Scorsese more than displays his mastery of genre cinema here and his ability to craft a wicked good little noir-inspired thriller that’s only marred by a less than stellar twist ending.  The film’s production values are through the roof and DiCaprio delivers one of his best performances to date, making this a winner through and through.
