[Ed. Note: original piece was lost, what follows was written retroactively in 2011] Antichrist may forever be remembered as “that movie where the crazy chick cuts off her…”  but it really does deserve to be remembered for a lot more.  For one thing the film should be appreciated for the menacing tone that Lars Von Trier was able to elicit and for its mysterious symbolism.  It should also be remembered for a pair of excellent performances by Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg, as well as for Anthony Dod Mantle’s hypnotizing cinematography.  It wasn’t for everyone, but I found it endlessly fascinating; it dug into my head and wouldn’t leave until I’d formed a whole lot of crazy theories about what it was trying to say.
