[Ed. Note: original piece was lost, what follows was written retroactively in 2011] We live in times that are rife with absurdities and its disappointing that more often than not comedians haven’t had the courage to stand up and point them out… on film.  On the other hand, satire is in full bloom on television and that is the medium that gave birth to In the Loop, the best direct political satire that I’ve seen in a long time.  The film is all about the petty agendas that led up to the start of something as potentially explosive as a war and about the mundane nature of politics which leads to cynical decisions made by people trying to keep their jobs.  That could be preachy if this was played straight, but this is a comedy and a particularly funny one at that.  The film is filled to the brim with highly quotable (and often quite profane) lines of dialogue that will have you in stitches.
