2015 Shootout of the Year Winner

The Revenant

Once you get past the somewhat iffy proposition of including a shootout where one side doesn’t have guns this becomes a pretty obvious choice.  Alejandro G. Iñárritu shoots the hell out of this scene and gives his movie an incredibly visceral opening that feels decidedly different from the “cowboys and Indians” battles of old.  The whole sequence is filled with awesome little moments like when DiCaprio spins and shoots a sniper out of a tree and by the time the fur trappers make it to their boat you feel a palpable sense of relief on their behalf.
