12 Years a Slave
In the first three years of the Golden Stakes this award was won by Javier Bardem, Heath Ledger, and Christoph Waltz. All three of them playing characters who are embodiments of evil. It’s a trend that was halted in the next three years, but it’s come back this year. Michael Fassbender’s performance as Edwin Epps is right up there with Ralph Fiennes’ Amon Goeth when it comes to actors exploring the inhumane side of humanity.
