2011 Best Score Winner

The Artist

While I said that this was a great year for scores, I was mainly referring to the breadth of quality work more than I was to any one stand out piece.  There was no obvious winner this year like Reznor’s work on The Social Network, Rahman’s work on Slumdog Millionaire, or Greenwood’s work on There Will Be Blood.  The Artist’s music isn’t groundbreaking, but it manages to provide many different scenes with themes that are really catchy.  At times it can be jazzy, and other times it can be somber, at other times it can be sweeping, and I think that’s why I’m ultimately giving it the award.
