2011 Best Documentary Winner

The Interrupters

The Interrupters isn’t as stylistic as Tabloid or as meticulously pieced together as Senna. It lacks the clean narrative arc of Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop and it hasn’t helped innocent people get acquitted, and yet it remains the most powerful documentary of 2011.  You’ll come to the film looking for answers to the ills of urban society and then stay for the fascinating characters who have managed to turn their lives around and desperately want to help turn around the lives of other people who walk in their former shoes.
