Shame
This has been a breakthrough year for Michael Fassbender in which he starred in four noteworthy films, and of those four this is clearly the standout. In Shame he needs to be a social deviant, someone who would be very hard to like or sympathize with, but he really turns this character into a sad and relatable person. “Sympathy” has been a key word in all these acting awards, and I think there’s a reason for that, bringing sympathy to a character is the best thing an actor can do in order to get an audience on board with a film, and Fassbender does it the best.
