2011 Best Acting Ensemble Winner

The Ides of March

What ultimately wins this award for The Ides of March wasn’t the sheer quantity of recognizable names (though it had a lot of that as well), but more the fact that there just wasn’t a weak link in the chain.  Owing in part to the stage origins of the material, the film has a relatively small cast with something like eleven speaking roles, and damn near every one of them is filled by a really strong and highly respected name, and none of these people try too hard to steal the spotlight either.  They do their jobs effectively and really elevate the material.
